Illegal skincare factory

zoritolerimol.com – On March 19, 2025, the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) conducted a raid on an illegal skincare manufacturing operation in Ciputat Timur, South Tangerang. The facility, concealed within a luxurious two-story residence on Jalan Gunung Indah VI, had been operating without the necessary business permits and failed to adhere to proper cosmetic production standards.

The clandestine operation was managed by a married couple, both licensed pharmacists identified as K and IKC. Over the past two years, they employed approximately 40 workers, producing a range of skincare products, including night creams, day creams, facial cleansers, and body lotions. Daily production reached up to 5,000 units, generating a monthly revenue of around IDR 1 billion (approximately USD 70,000).

BPOM officials discovered that these products contained hazardous substances such as hydroquinone, tretinoin, betamethasone, dexamethasone, and clindamycin. The use of these chemicals without proper oversight poses significant health risks to consumers. The products were distributed across various Indonesian regions, notably Semarang, Medan, and Makassar, primarily through social media channels.

During the raid, authorities seized substantial quantities of raw materials and approximately 5,000 finished products. Equipment confiscated included two large mixers with a capacity of 1 ton each, seven smaller mixers, analytical scales, and a Daihatsu Luxio van used for distribution.

The couple is now in custody and faces charges under Articles 435 and 436 of Law Number 17 of 2024 concerning Health natemeetsworld. If convicted, they could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison or fined up to IDR 5 billion (approximately USD 350,000).

This incident underscores the critical importance of regulatory compliance in the cosmetics industry to ensure consumer safety and maintain public health standards.
